The Make Up

The Campaign for D&G's new makeup line has been working its magic on me. Sad but true. Scarlett looks amazing and I love their decision to show her whole body rather than the typical facial close-ups that are used to sell beauty products . The packaging is luxurious and the amazing make up artist, Pat McGrath, collaborated on designing the range. They really have made a top effort!

I'm not sure if the range is available in Australia yet, but as soon as it is I can see myself buying a few lipsticks (one red and one of the amazing orange tones), a neutral eyeshadow quad and possible even foundation. So much for saving!

Chanel vs. Dior

Chanel versus Dior.

Extended advertisements or "sponsored artworks" seem to be all the rage nowadays.

Chanel definitely wins for me! I love it.

Movie Frames

I recently bought a bunch of big posters from some of my favourite films. I want to frame a couple for decoration in my new room, although I'm having trouble deciding!

Not hard to tell who my favourite directors are. Alas, no Godard film posters. Apparently they are rare and are so expensive!

I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself

Kate Moss. Sofia Coppola. The White Stripes.

Worth a look.

Crystals

Crystal pendants and necklaces by Unearthen. I like the Topaz and Amethyst, but there is also a nice Tangerine Quartz one on the site that is not yet in the shop.

I love seeing how other people decorate and organise their houses. Especially now that my bedroom is being renovated and i'm trying to work out how I want it to look. So these are some of my favourite photos from The Selby. Inspiration.

I've Got The Music In Me

I haven't written a music post for ages, so I thought I should perhaps share some of my love for a few of my favourite bands at the moment.

Sherlock's Daughter

Although these guys don't have an album out yet, I'm already in love. I saw them play when they were supporting Tame Impala and was instantly drawn to their tambourine shaking, hand clapping and layered harmonies.

The lead singer reminds me of Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes, and if I recall correctly, she played the guitar and swapped around with her band members to some other instruments. I'm looking forward to them releasing an album as their record label status is currently "Processing..."

You can check them out at www.myspace.com/sherlocksdaughter
or see video's from their live shows here.

Amazing Baby

I can't believe I haven't posted about Amazing Baby before. Since I first discovered them by way of MGMT, they have accumulated a fair bit of 'hype' which I think can actually end up being bad for bands as they become overexposed and overhyped. And then the backlash begins because they "aren't that good" and now "everyone likes them."

Anyway, I'm going to do my bit in adding to the hype surrounding Amazing Baby, because they probably do deserve it. Like MGMT these guys have a psych-pop-rock sound, but in a different ratio. More rock, less pop. Still awesome. You used to be able to download their EP Infinite Fucking Cross on their site, but I think it may be removed now.
Still you can hear them at http://www.myspace.com/theamazingbaby

Blitzen Trapper

Although their latest album Furr came out last year, I've only just started listening to it. Their sound jumps around a bit from folk to country and rock. Very 70's, and of course comparisons to Dylan, Neil Young and The Beatles abound if you read the reviews. No matter what the influence, their songs are infectious. And there is harmonica playing! Bomb.

Girls

These guys don't have an album out yet either, but I'm definitely looking forward to it, because their myspace songs show their talent. I think they were featured in Russh a few issues ago actually. Dreamy, lo-fi, acoustic, 60's pop. These are the words that come to me when I think of Girls. Also that they will grow on you. Well that's what happened to me with their hopeful/depressing 'Hellhole Ratrace'. Now I love it!

"I don't wanna cry my whole life through, yeah I wanna do some laughing to, come on and laugh with me. I don't want to die without shaking up a thing or two, yeah I wanna do some dancing too, so come on and dance with me"
