Christmas/Birthday Wishlist

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In the last few weeks I have been struggling to think of anything that I would like for Christmas or my birthday (which is 27th of Dec). How unlike me! Usually I have a hundred and one things that I'm pining after. Maybe it's because I have been working alot this year and spoiling myself rotten as a 'reward' for it.

So yesterday I had a good think about some things that I might like and came up with...

1. Macaroons! Yum. So sickly sweet and pretty. I feel bad actually eating them!

2. Baz Luhrmann's Red Curtain Trilogy: Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, and Moulin Rouge

3. A Picnic Basket. When I was overseas, my boyfriend and I had so many makeshift picnics.  I'd love to have a proper basket and set so that we can picnic around Sydney.

4. Tim Walker Pictures. This book is to die for. So beautiful, whimsy and fantastic!

5. A new phone. If I don't get one, my friends will kill me. Mine hardly ever works!

6. Flowers! What girl doesn't love getting flowers? Purple ones are my favourite.

7. Lolita. I've read alot about this book, so I'd be interested to finally read it.

8. Christian Louboutin Fringed Boots. So I don't actually want these ones for Christmas. That would be asking a bit much! But I found some lovely lookalikes in Chinatown the other day.

9. Carousel Necklace by Matina Amanita. So girly and pretty. I think I like the pink, but it's hard to decide.

10. Pastel Pennant Flags. I don't think these would be too easy to buy, but I'd love someone to make me some!

The pendants on these necklaces are described as "stolen from old ladies' sitting rooms and then shrunken." How accurate! They come in white and coloured porcelain. I personally enjoy the bird in tree. Available from Chinnychinchin.

A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes...

...When you're fast asleep
In dreams you will lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for your keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
You're rainbow will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dreams that you wish will come true

You've gotta love a Disney classic!

Christmas Cakepops

My Mum asked me to bake cupcakes for Christmas dessert so I immediately thought of Bakerella (whom I've blogged about before) and whether or not she would have Christmas themed cakepops up yet. Well she does! And they look so cute!

She also has a video up on her site now that shows you how to make cakepops. Tres helpful!

Miss Dior Cherie: Sofia's Cut

Yesterday I had a couple of friends over to bake cupcakes (they were delicioussss!) and we watched this extended version of the Miss Dior Cherie ad on loop, whilst looking for apartments in Paris. As my friend Amy said, "This girl is living the dream".

Fifi Lapin has been around for quite a while now, but I've recently begun checking up on her new outfits again. For anyone who hasn't visited Fifi, you can find her amazing wardrobe here

Sofia For Louis Vuitton

Sofia Coppola's capsule collection for Louis Vuitton was recently revealed in Tokyo, and a couple of photos have now surfaced.

In an interview with WWD, Sofia revealed how the collaboration came about through a visit to the custom orders department at the Louis Vuitton factory. She says, "To start with I wanted to make a bag for myself and then we talked about making a little capsule collection. My friends and I are always searching for the perfect day bag.  It fits all your things but isn't too big and isn't too heavy. I wanted a bag that I could use every day that was coming from the heritage of Louis Vuitton’s great leather goods, not connected to the fashion side of the brand. We went through a lot of prototypes but it was fun. It was always exciting to get a new one and I would try them out and add things".

Sofia's collection consists of slouchy duffle bags, clutches and wedge sandals, and will be available in March.

The shoes don't particularly appeal to me but the bag and clutch are nice. They look simple and elegant, but still luxurious in terms of their details and materials. Very Sofia.

Is There Anything He Won't Do?

For the recent pre-fall 2009 Chanel collection 'Paris-Moscou', the Kaiser directed a 10 minute silent black and white film about Coco Chanel and her flirtation with Russian-Parisian emigre society in the 1910's and 1920's.

Interesting. Apparently the film is available on the Chanel website on December 5th, but I can't find it yet. I guess it is still the 4th in Europe/US/wherever it gets uploaded which is obviously not Australia. Oh, the woes of being ahead of everyone else. It always feels like you have to wait longer for everything.

Anywho, it should be up soon for those who want to check it out. In the meantime here's a clip that is apparently from the film, found at fashionologie.

House of Baulch

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

While shopping recently I discovered jewellery and accessories brand, House of Baulch, and couldn't help but buy the mixed chain necklace on the left. I'm glad I didn't listen to my mum and sister (girly shopping day) because I love it!

The brand was launched only last year by ex-Mimco jewellery designer, Kathryn Baulch. Her designs definitely do remind me of Mimco, which I've blogged about previously. You can check out some of her other pieces here.

Blowing Kisses

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Although not everyone is a fan (see Perez Hilton), I'm quite partial to a bit of Kirsten Dunst. Probably because of Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides. I wish I owned a copy of the Lula that she guest edited. What a dream. Maybe I can scavenge one on eBay.

I love everything about Across The Universe. To be more specific I'll put my film student hat on and say...

I love the interpretations of The Beatles' songs, how they are used to tell the story in a way that isn't overly forced, and how the film creates a new meaning for them. I love the imagery, the colour, the psychedelic effects, the composition and deliberate framing that plays in such a choreographed musical way. I love how creative the film is and how it experiments with the image to maintain a sense of meaning in the songs. And I love that the story and how it encapsulates all of the typical 60's themes of war, politics, drugs, and hippie counterculture.

It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it is amazing.
